Recreational Information

The Black Canyon Planned Community is in a unique location that offers easy access to all kinds of recreational activities and sports, from boating to downhill skiing to white water rafting and more!

We have planned the Community to have easy access to an irresistible collection of high-quality recreational activities, including:

  • 2 world class golf courses: Designed by Bob Cupp, these courses will be scenic as well as challenging. Read more about the golf courses.
  • Extensive Equestrian Center: With over 110 stables and a significant network of trails, the public Equestrian center will be attractive to horse-lovers everywhere! Read more about the Equestrian Center.
  • Shooting Range: Onsite you will find a skeet and small game shooting range.
  • Amphitheater The medium-sized amphitheater will be a perfect fit for annual festivals, jazz concerts and more.
  • Reservoir access: The Black Canyon Reservoir is a great resource for water-lovers. With a boat dock, launches, 4.5 acres of shoreline and other facilities, the public reservoir access will be a popular spot in the summer.
  • Swimming Pool: Perfect for exercising or cooling off in the heat.
  • Tennis Courts: Multiple tennis courts will be available to public use.

Within an hour's drive, there are numerous other great activities:

  • Downhill Skiing: The nearby Bogus Basin is one of the regions leading mountains for downhill skiing. They also boast some great inner tubing hills and various off-season activities. Within two hours you can also downhill ski at Brundage and Cascade.
  • White Water Rafting: The Payette River, which expands above the Black Canyon Dam to create the Black Canyon Reservoir, offers some exhilarating white water rafting.
  • Shopping: While some may argue that shopping is not a sport, nearby Emmett offers several classic shops and an old-town feel for treasure-finders and antique collectors. Boise is also a short drive away for those looking for a larger city to explore.
  • Fishing: Fly-fishing is a popular sport around these parts, both in the river and nearby lakes and ponds.
  • Professional and Semi-professional Sports: The Bank of America Centre hosts the Idaho Steelheads hockey team as well as the Boise Hawks.
  • Performing Arts: The Morrison Center for the Performing Arts is a beautiful theater that hosts the region's most significant performing arts events such as broadway plays and symphony concerts. The Idaho Center also hosts many of Idaho's largest concerts, various sporting events and rodeos.

The area around the Black Canyon Community is so rich with activity, it is impossible to list everything here. For more information, you can contact the Gem County Chamber of Commerce or the Boise Chamber of Commerce.
